| Blog readers, Next Sunday, 17th May, Dave and Rine Ingleby from CMS (Church Missionary Society) will be speaking at both the 9.30am and 11.00am services. They will have Prayer Cards to give us that enable people to keep linked with what CMS are doing in mission and to pray for the work. Also there will be an opportunity to give a special offering to the work of CMS. | |
| Sidesmen Did you know that that our Sidesmen have a duty under Canon E2 to promote the cause of true religion in the parish, and to assist the Churchwardens in the discharge of their duties, in maintaining order and decency in the church and churchyard, and especially during the time of divine service? We have moved on a bit since that was written in 1921 but still need sidesmen to carry out other duties, such as "setting up" for services and being on hand to welcome people into our church, with a smile and a hymn book etc. Sidesmen are the ambassadors of our church, and there greeting is often the catalyst to cause people to return to our church. Could you be a Sidesman? If so please contact me or any of our Churwardens, we would love to have you on board. It is not to onerous, perhaps one or two services a month maximum. Please give it thought and a try, you will find it very worthwhile. | The Vine and the Branches I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:1-8 (NIV) | |
