St Mary's Newsletter

St. Mary's Newsletter 17th May

Blog readers,

Today Dave and Rine Ingleby from CMS (Church Missionary Society) will be speaking at both the 9.30am and 11.00am services. They will have Prayer Cards to give us that enable people to keep linked with what CMS are doing in mission and to pray for their work. Also there will be an opportunity to give a special offering to the work of CMS.

Berkeley and district church youth fellowship

On Friday 8th May we launched the Berkeley and district church youth fellowship and we have a lot to give thanks for. It was such a joy to see so many young people crammed into The Vicarage lounge and having fun.17 young people from various churches in the local area made and ate homemade pizza and then watched a Simpsons video. The evening concluded with an interesting discussion and prayer.
On Saturday 13th June our youth group will be taking a trip to Cadbury World and we would very much value your continued prayer support as we plan and embark on this exciting adventure.

Archaeological Dig

A team of archaeologists from Bristol University, led by Mark Holton (of 'Coast' fame), will be carrying out an archaeological dig on the East side of the tower during the last two weeks in May and the first two weeks in June. They will be looking for the Anglo Saxon Nun's Chapel. Unfortunately the dig will be screened off and there will be no public access to the excavation.

Ascension Day

7.30pm Holy Communion, Benefice Service at All Saints' Stone

Ascension Day used to be celebrated much more than it is today. In the past some schools even had the day off! Coming on a Thursday, as it always does, it can get overlooked. However it does mark the significant time when Jesus finished his earthly ministry as he commissioned his disciples to go into the world to share the love and forgiveness of God through Jesus and prepare the way for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

Bank Holiday Monday 25th May

Come to St Mary's on Bank Holiday Monday for tea and cake. There will be a table with plants, baked goods, and a nearly new sale.
Offers of help would be appreciated. We need people to bake cakes and to save seedlings, cuttings and perennial thinnings to sell on the day. We look forward to seeing you there.
