St Mary's Newsletter

St. Mary's Newsletter 1st March

Blog readers,

In 2007, as part of an Eleven service, we looked at the modern day slave trade and the use of child slaves in African cocoa farming, which the big chocloate makers are still profiting from. We're also half way through Fair Trade Fortnight, so we've been shopping around to find the best deal on Fair Trade Easter Eggs (Fair Trade chocolate is slave free) and we think we've found a good one - Divine's Dubble Chocolate Easter Egg with Bar for £2.50. If you would like to buy one or more, contact Alice before Thursday and we will place a bulk order before the free delivery offer expires. Our local Co-Op has the more expensive Divine Easter Eggs as well as a good range of Fair Trade produce.

Journey to Jerusalem with Christian Aid

During Lent 2009, we are going to blog a virtual journey through the Holy Land.

With help from people who have travelled in the region - and those that live and work there - we will see the sights but also hear what it is like to work for peace in this troubled region.

Along the way we will reflect on what Jesus' example can teach us about how we can make a difference in the world.

Valuation Day at St Mary's, Berkeley 6th March 10am-2pm

In June 2009 a Treasure Auction is to be held in aid of the Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust. The trust gives grants to churches around the county when funds are needed for restoration and maintenance. The trust hopes that anybody with an unwanted heirloom or antique may be generous enough to donate it to this good cause. Donors will receive a catalogue for the sale and an invitation to the private view, proceeds of the sale will go to the GHCT. If you would just like to have an item valued then by all means bring it along and Thomas Jenner-Fust of Simon Chorley Auctioneers will be more than happy to give a verbal valuation with any small donation to the Trust being welcomed. There will be opportunity to buy light refreshments.

St Mary's Newsletter

St. Mary's Newsletter 22nd February

Blog reader,

Are you mad?
Christians are regarded as "mad" by the rest of society because they are motivated by charity and compassion rather than the reckless pursuit of money, according to the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu. Read the full article.

Charities – Last Chance
Thank you for your nominations for the charities you would like us to support this coming year. If you still want to add to the list, today is the last day. The list is on the table as you come into church.

I'm watching you Dad!
